Description

Some occasions call for more than a taste, and Foie Gras Block Goose 210g is our answer — a generous bloc of goose foie gras built for the Christmas table, the milestone birthday, the night everyone’s coming over.

Goose foie gras is the traditionalist’s choice, prized for its frank aromas and long, steady finish. Because Comtesse du Barry combines several foies gras before cooking, the bloc holds its fat through the tin and carves into smooth, unblemished slices — exactly what you want when the whole table is watching.

How we serve it for a celebration

  • Slice roughly 1cm thick with a wire lyre, or a hot, dry knife blade
  • Serve as the opening course, on toasted spiced bread or brioche
  • Add dried fruits — apricots, dates, prunes — or a sharp chutney
  • Champagne alongside turns it into an event

Made in Gascony since 1908

Comtesse du Barry has been making foie gras in Gimont since 1908, and this traditional recipe has stayed the same since 1954: free-range geese raised outdoors in the Gers, fed whole-grain corn, cooked without additives in the label’s own workshops. We import it tin by tin from South-West France — the genuine article, ready for your best occasion.

Frequently asked questions

Is this foie gras from goose or duck?

This is goose foie gras — from free-range French geese raised outdoors in the Gers region of South West France and fed whole grain corn in the traditional way, then cooked in Comtesse du Barry's own workshops.

How many people will the 210g tin serve?

It is the dinner-party size of the range (65g and 100g tins are also available). Served the traditional way — in slices about 1cm thick at the start of the meal — it comfortably covers an elegant entrée for a table of guests.

What should I serve with goose foie gras?

Fresh figs, pears and grapes, or dried apricots, dates and prunes, along with chutneys and marmalades. Season with fleur de sel and a good pepper — its crystalline crunch is a lovely counterpoint to the velvety foie gras.

Can you freeze foie gras?

Never — freezing damages its texture and alters its aromas. Keep the tin refrigerated between +2 and +4°C and simply remove it 15 minutes before serving.

What is the story behind the Comtesse du Barry brand?

A famous French house founded in 1908 in Gimont, Gascony, by Joseph and Gabrielle Dubarry — a tinsmith and a pork butcher determined to make 'the best foie gras in the whole world'. Today the brand is found in French airports, Galeries Lafayette Gourmet and Monoprix.
