Description
When the whole family is coming, bring out Foie Gras Block Duck 210g — Comtesse du Barry’s most generous duck bloc, made for proper slices and second helpings.
Rich, deeply savoury and smooth from edge to edge, the bloc is produced the traditional way: several duck foies gras blended before cooking, so little fat is lost in the tin and every slice presents cleanly. The recipe hasn’t moved since 1954 and contains no additives or preservatives — what was good enough then is precisely what’s in the tin now.
Serving a crowd
- Slice generously — about 1cm — with a warm, dry blade, onto cooled plates
- Put out brioche, toasted sourdough and spiced bread and let guests choose
- Bowls of dried dates, prunes and fresh grapes around the platter
- A spoonful of our balsamic or native bush tomato flavour pearls on top is pure theatre
South-West France, without the airfare
Comtesse du Barry set out in 1908 to make the finest foie gras in the world, and this tin is the family-sized proof: farm-raised French ducks — born, raised, fed and cooked in France — prepared in the maison’s own Gascony workshops. We import it whole and untouched; you just chill, slice and take the credit.

Frequently asked questions
What does duck foie gras taste like?
Powerful, frank aromas and a steady, full taste — a luxurious French classic with a velvety texture and a smooth, clean cut. Every stage is made patiently by Comtesse du Barry's cooks in the tradition of the founders' wish: to make the best foie gras in the world.
How do I slice and serve a 210g foie gras block?
Chill it for several hours (+2 to +4°C), remove 15 minutes before serving, and cut slices about 1cm thick using a fine wire (a lyre) or a toothless knife blade dipped in hot water. Arrange the slices on cooled plates with toasted sourdough or brioche.
What do the French drink with foie gras?
A slightly sweet wine — Sauternes and Gewürztraminer are the classics, and Champagne works beautifully too. Serve the foie gras at the very beginning of the meal, when the palate is still fresh.
Is this duck foie gras free of additives?
Yes — the traditional 1954 block recipe remains unchanged and is made without any additives or preservatives, from free-range ducks born, raised, fed and cooked in France with full traceability.
Should I add salt or pepper to foie gras?
Yes — fleur de sel is ideal, its iodised taste and crystalline texture a fine counterpoint to the velvety foie gras. Pepper is a great friend too: Sarawak adds nuance, Cubeb is round and slightly bitter, and Java long pepper is almost sweet.
